this is one proper bloke , top man
Baumgartner became the first person to break the sound barrier under his own power and free fell at speeds as high as Mach 1.24 (834 mph). The previous record holder, 84-year-old Joe Kittinger, helped guide Baumgartner from mission control.
I watched the Discovery Channel’s live coverage of the jump earlier and must admit it was quite suspenseful, at least during the ascent. Granted, there were silent moments that showed nothing but the eggheads in the control room, but it was generally entertaining.
Once Baumgartner jumped, though, the excitement for viewers ended in roughly four minutes. I’m sure the excitement he’s feeling will last a whole lot longer.
