burning bits of wood

or pyrography to give it it’s proper name

good morning world  ^_^ but sorry for once again being missing for a week the pain was a bit intense as i tried to enter and then clean my 14 yr olds bedroom yes i was that brave took me a week in bed to recover though! so sorry succumbing to the annoying little things in life, but i think the last time we talked i promised you another look at one of my newly learned talents from my time out of around nine months , well my dear friends you guessed it -or at least you did if you know me ^_^ i chose another rather prone to self damage hobby but

and its a big but

why can i never resist saying that i shake my head at myself but lets move on

so i took up pyrography, which is basically burning bits of wood or sometimes leather but i have only ventured as far as wood, with a tool that looks like a soldering iron, except it comes with different tips that you can place in the head for different patterns but i ended up with choosing to love only one tip and yes i remain faithful, its the one tip that in effect is like a pencil except it burns and

wait for it

make sure you’re sitting down

i haven’t i say i haven’t burnt myself yet -now please universe that is not some kind of challenge it is just a hope that this record carries on like forever

so i have burnt numerous bits of wood usually in like nice heart shapes or i pick wooden boxes and so far i have made for birthdays and sold some ebay and i have nothing -just about- left to show you except the latest one i have just finished -though last night i did draw another design for my next burning but before i do it i promised a local dog rescue charity i would make something for them to use as a fundraiser so i best get on with that first but in the meantime here is the last one i have left

copyrighted 2015 by the artist blushbaby

so this is the top and all my own design sorry have to put the copyright bit you wouldn’t believe the amount of times someone has stolen my work so here goes
this design is original and copyrighted august 2015 and is the sole property therefore of the artist blushbaby please do not copy steal or use without written permission from the artist

this bit is just to show what the item actually is its one of the bigger pieces i have done and is kind of like a wooden case not deep i often describe them as wiccan or altar boxes as they do make very useful altar boxes but i suppose if you were not a practising wiccan then it would make somewhere good to keep paintings drawings or writings anything on thin paper really

after i have burnt in all i want of the design and i am getting rather proud of my shading work- just a little brag there- with this one i then added some coloured pencil work and i finished with writing a poem i am not sure how well you can see on this picture it is only taken with my phone so not the best picture in the world but the poem is edgar allen poe a dream within a dream  which is why the working title of the art work is dream within a dream – in time we learn?

ok that’s enough warbling from me for now it is my sons birthday on friday and he is panicking about if i have enough money to cope with his birthday plans ^_^ so another coffee then off to check if i do in fact have enough to cope with a thirteen yr old birthday plans ^_^

have an excellent day or at least a peaceful one

  1. That is amazing. I didn’t know that such things could be done with burning and coloured pencils. Best wishes with the birthday stuff, I have a little un coming up on one soon too.

I’m not even going to touch the boob comments.

    1. aww trentle ^_^ i am sorry ^_^ i forget sometimes men don’t know where to put themselves when we women talk about such things its ok just avert your eyes as i practise my tiny steps ^_^ and thank you for your kind comments i think i enjoy the wood burning the most but i still have to sew because that’s what people want so in order to enjoy a hobby like wood burning i have to make and sell a costume so i can afford to buy what i need to burn something, and of course whats needed to sew the next costume, i am lucky in that i do like making the costumes but sometimes i just kinda go on strike and don’t sew for a week or something it is very time consuming and i have been known to still be sewing a costume at 2 or 3 am but again i like that i can fit it around the kids and my illness, at least i get to choose whether or not i sew and when and that is very lucky, the only thing with the burning as with the felting, it is physically quite hard work, usually in my work it is very highly detailed and difficult, and different woods burn differently- most people use birch because it is the easiest to burn and i would expressly tell anyone wanting to burn to stay away from pine -you need man muscles to burn that stuff it is so hard! i tend to just try all different woods i usually go with whatever i like the look of -unless it is pine- i only do pine when i have the courage ^_^ it is something though that i would recommend as a good hobby to take your mind of things , to relax, as when you are doing it it is very consuming and leaves no area for outside thought , like when i am knitting or crocheting i get bored easily it is simply to easy and so my mind wanders off this is why i prefer other hobbies that keep all me and my mind busy, give it a go sometime you may find you like it ^_^ have a super day trentle x^_^

      1. edited the post in order to spare the blushes of my lovely friend trentle though now of course it just looks like he randomly mentioned boobs ^_^

  2. Your pyography box is beautiful! I’ve done a few simple things, and it is fun, but tedious. I love the smell of the wood as it burns, too. You are so creative! Never heard of the Temples, but I sure did like the song and video! Hope you had a super weekend! 🙂

    1. thank you i appreciate your lovely comment especially seen as you have experience of this and so know how much goes into this, took me all day to make that box and yes i completely agree ! that smell is always somehow satisfying and i can say i have been doing it long enough (around 5 maybe 6 months) that i can judge by the smell alone how my art work is progressing and how long or short i need in seconds for each mark, i must say though the on piece of advice i would give to anyone doing it is to invest in a burning tool that comes with a separate control box for temperature, when i first started i bout the most basic tool in case i didn’t take to it i soon realised how difficult it was with no variable on heat so i soon got a middle range tool and am a lot happier with my work and it helps such a lot with the shading, glad you liked the tune they are my new fave band ^_^ have a lovely evening xx

      1. That is a great tip, to get a tool with a control box. I only have the basic you plug in the wall, and a few extra tips to use. I didn’t know they came any different. I’ll have to have a look around the craft store next time I go. I can see it would help. I’d never thought about the smell could let you know how deep or shallow the marks would be. You have helped me in this craft, and maybe someday I could try something as awesome as you’ve done! 🙂

      2. thats brilliant i love it when i can help i shall tell you another i have learned try to find birch to use as it is the easiest wood to burn on on ebay you can find suppliers who will sell you blank birch boxes etc and they are cheap and good also my tool i got from ebay as well both my first and my second the second was around sixty english pounds i am not sure what the conversion rate is on that but i do know they are less expensive in america i think mine may have even been an import from america because it was cheaper importing it than buying it here mad as it sounds but i was just happy to find a nice tool happy burning xx

      3. Thanks so much, again, for your hints on crafting, and pyography. I love seeing what new adventure you are on! 🙂 I have so many projects started…and should someday try to finish them. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. Aw, this brings back memories. I used to do this when I was younger…but NEVER accomplished anything even close to the masterpiece you’ve shown here. There is nothing you cannot do and do extremely well Kizz. Soooo impressive. Good luck and good fun with the birthday…I’m sure you’ll make it one to remember as I’m sure you always do! Love and hugs….Rhinda (hope you are feeling better)

    1. hello my lovely gorgeous friend and thank you for your lovely comments i shall glow with pride a little today and yes fingers crossed i dare not spend any money as my son has plans for all my money ^_^ but i am happy as long as we find what it is he wants one of the problems with autism and he is severely autistic is that he loses the ability to speak and often has difficulty getting across exactly what he is looking for and it is difficult even for me and i have 13 years of experience in trying to understand him but fingers crossed we find enough that he is happy again his autism means he has obsessions and his are mario and sonic and in our neck of the woods that means travelling to the next bigger town which even then has only one shop selling anything of that sort now in previous years we have managed with just that shop and i always tell him we have ebay and amazon which have saved the situation a number of times ! the stress of it all does add grey hairs but as long as he is happy at the end of the day thats all i care about – don’t even get me started about christmas ! -have a wonderful day my gorgeous girl love you xxxxxxxxxxxx

      1. You are such a natural born Mum…and oh boy, I can just imagine having such limited shopping opportunities when it’s as important as it is for him. You’re right, thank goodness for Amazon and Ebay. Best of luck in your mission, I shall send all good thoughts your way….xxx
