film reviews

in this i will only review films I liked/thought were good enough to recommend so if its not on the list I either didn’t like it or haven’t seen it.

travelling salesman  brilliant film, I have just watched this and although labelled as a thriller do not expect car chases or serial killers even though on a wider level both may be a consequence, set mostly in one room with a few shots to an auditorium and one mans home this film may come across as claustrophobic yet the subject matter isn’t; it’s something that affects the whole world, in order to understand the idea of p=np I suggest research or go here it gives a basic outline but you don’t actually need to know that or understand it the film itself will still be watchable and understandable without any knowledge of it, personally i loved it i was born a geek and will remain a geek but as long as you’re open minded to accept that some films are good because of the storyline then you should watch this.

eden log another film that is a brilliant storyline and goes beyond the usual, set in mostly underground system of tunnels and electrical systems that have all fallen into disrepair one mans struggle to finding who and what he is. it does have some quite violent moments but the ending I thought though predictable was good and i am very fussy on endings

parasomnia i loved this a thriller verging on horror that is set both in this world and a world beyond, again some violent bits but not too many and the storyline of a girl who suffers a sleep condition meaning she has been asleep just about all her life is scary and intriguing add in a scary man and some brilliant surreal scenes and all in all a really enjoyable film.

primer this is brilliant film the storyline runs along the idea of friends who have worked hard beavering away in a garage trying everything to come up with inventions basically to make them some money then one particular invention is brilliant beyond comprehension the trouble caused and its conclusion are all conveyed brilliantly by the actors and i was completely loving this film give it a try again its a thinking persons film most of the ones i love are but this one is watchable by anyone i reckon.

the tall man it is easy to go into this film with a whole heap of preconceptions, but my advice is don’t, in fact do not think of a link with slenderman at all, this film and believe me I love slenderman to the point of writing my own book inspired by the myth that is slenderman (a quick and quite shameless plug for my book ^_^ Saudade )  no, this film becomes a tale, a story, a good film in its own right, marvelously well acted; a recognizable name is Jessica Biel and some of those twilight fans like myself may even recognize the young lass as Jodelle Ferland who played Bree in twilight eclipse, the story itself I will not give too much away but set in a small town in america with a nurse who works too hard is very conscientious and Jenny (Jodelle) is a young girl who cannot talk, its plot has enough to keep the film going through to the end on its apparent main plot alone but there are surprises and its the sort of good old-fashioned edge of your seat thriller not because of being scared but because you want the good side to win, in the end it remains to be one of those I urge you to watch and make your own decisions about I find it not only entertaining but thought-provoking and as you know that’s the one key ingredient that a film needs to have and to have done it well to earn a place on the leaderboard and to earn a place here well it has to be above average and to me this film was.

well phew it’s been a long time since i wrote a film review don’t get me wrong i have been watching them, lots and lots of them, I just haven’t found one good enough to write a review and recommendation about! so finally here we go i have just watched a fabulous little film called Winter’s Tale

so this is not a major release but it should be it is lovely, and yes i had a jolly cry ^_^ ok the small description given at imdb is not enough  and i don’t want to give away any spoilers so i shall try to do my best. Set over a large span of time over a hundred years yet with a story as old as time itself this is good versus evil, love against the odds, and other heartwarming phrases and it does exactly that; it is heartwarming. The story line kept me stuck rigidly to it through to the end with a few gasps and clinging to my seat don’t get me wrong it is not a horror it is however a beautifully written story and you all want the good guy to win, the scenes are well shot, beautifully atmospheric, and the acting brilliant even though there are one or two surprises i thought as to role choice and casting i think each actor rose to the challenge perfectly and did the film proud, the special effects were brilliant and done in such a way that they enhanced the film, not overcrowded, not overbearing but became beautiful details that made the film perfect, the timing was brilliant and each actor complemented the others as well as the set, even though it all takes place in and around new york city the story seems much more than that because of its use of time and the interconnected passages of time how one seemingly small incident connects and influences others and the edge of magic flows in and around the whole piece, i gave this a ten out of ten and if fantasy with a touch of class an edge of demons and dash of hope against the odds is your thing then i thoroughly recommend this and i know you will enjoy it too

Enter Nowhere

watch this rather good film ! I did and really enjoyed it ^_^

watch this rather good film ! I did and really enjoyed it ^_^

A rather good film, having just watched Enter Nowhere I am pleased to say I have finally found another film good enough to actually recommend, remember this is not about just doing any film review this page is only about films I think are good enough to recommend to others. This film on the surface may appear complicated it features different time dimensions etc which as everyone knows is just about my favorite topic and so it was sold immediately to me but do not worry dear reader it id neither complicated nor confusing but it is highly entertaining and I even liked the ending ^_^

following a tale of three people who do not realise they are somehow connected all thrown together seemingly random people finding themselves lost in the woods and there is a small wooden cabin that becomes the focus of their existence. i do not want to throw any spoilers in this because it is such a good film but i will say it was well written and beautifully shot, and though it all centers on the same small space it never feels cramped. I found each of the characters satisfying and well written and the story was well conceived. To take such a difficult area as time dimensions and make it into a entertaining and well thought out film is quite a task and I think they not only achieved that but excelled in it also. with a satisfying ending this film becomes the complete package that I look for in film and I thoroughly enjoyed watching I recommend this film for just about most adults or teenagers who express an interest in these areas, there is violence but none of it was stomach churning nor was it graphic, and you know how I hate violence in films but this was only as was needed in the story and was filmed perfectly for once it felt like naturally part of the film instead of some gore fest I really hate gore *shudders* there was no adult areas so no need to worry about any of that not even a taking off of clothes how refreshing to watch a film where the story was of the utmost importance and not the sex or violence! so really anyone can enjoy this film and I would happily watch  it more than once it has joined my classics list and that is a rare feat indeed!
